Join Stefanie Kohl, English Channel swimmer and cold water enthusiast, on a 6 week course to build up your cold water resistance.
In this course you will learn techniques on how to monitor and manage the physical discomfort manifested by the stress of immersing yourself in cold water.
Our modern lifestyle has turned us into creatures of comfort. We seldom push our limits both physically and mentally, when things get unpleasant we immediately look for ways to minimize the discomfort, the stress and aim to stay well within our comfort zone. But what would happen if we would not choose the "easy way"? If we would seek out moments of discomfort? If we would actively push our comfort zone?
One of the easiest ways to push your limits and to get out of your comfort zone is cold water immersion. In cold water you can consciously observe how your body reacts to physical stress and learn techniques on how to effectively manage the effects of stress.
Cold water immersions comes with a wide range of benefits such as improved circulation, an improved metabolic function, a boost to your immune system and a boost of mood.
It is an activity independent of age, body shape or level of fitness, although you need to be prepared to immerse yourself in water there is no need to be a strong swimmer. This course is ideal for everyone who wants to push their comfort zone and explore how to manage situations of stress and discomfort.
After a short briefing, discussing the objective of each dip, we will go into the water.
The aim is to slowly build up the duration in the water starting with approximately 3 minutes up to 10 minutes at the end of the course.
After each session there is the opportunity to have a chat over a cup of tea and to share your experience with the rest of the group.

Group Size: Max 10 participants
Location: Small beach in front of Marina Beach Hotel Den Haag (Noordzijde Havenhoofd)
Equipment: Swimming costume, neoprene shoes and gloves (recommended but not required), towel, warm clothes for after (lose jogging bottoms, wide sweaters, wide shoes, hat and gloves)

About Stefanie Kohl: Stefanie has been active all her life, but after a severe climbing accident in 2015, in which she almost lost her leg, she found herself in and out of the hospital and on crutches for the majority of the time in the 6 years of recovery that followed.
Unable to continue with the sports she used to do, she re-discovered her love of swimming. Having been a competitive swimmer in her youth, she did not only feel at ease when in water but was also able to forget the struggles that came with the recovery even if it was just for the duration of the swim.
No stranger to extreme challenges she gladly agreed to join a friend in early April 2017 for an open water swim in a cold lake in the English countryside. Little she knew that this was just the beginning of her journey of swimming long distances in cold water ultimately leading to the crossing of the English Channel in September 2022. A truly amazing journey both in physical endurance and mental strength. Since 3 years she is living in The Hague and swims in the North Sea all year round with nothing but a swimming costume.
