About Stefanie:
Stefanie has always led an active lifestyle, until a climbing accident in 2015, that nearly cost her a leg, put an end to that. Over the next six years, she spent much of her time in and out of hospitals, often relying on crutches for mobility. During this challenging period, she was unable to pursue many of the sports she once loved. However, she rediscovered her passion for swimming, a sport she had excelled in during her youth. The water ultimately became her place of solace, where she could temporarily escape the hardships of recovery.
In April 2017, Stefanie accepted a friend’s invitation to join an open-water swim in a cold lake in the English countryside. What she thought would be a one-time challenge turned into the beginning of an extraordinary journey and a new passion. Her resilience and love for long-distance swimming soon led her to take on greater feats, culminating in crossing the English Channel in September 2022. She also became the first German woman and the fifth person in the world to swim from Denmark to Sweden.
Her story is a testament to physical endurance and mental fortitude. Now, living in The Hague for the past six years, Stefanie continues to swim in the North Sea all year-round—wearing nothing but a swimsuit.
