A Day of Silence, Stillness, and Inner Clarity.
Saturday 15 November 11.00 -18.00
With Barbara van Dortmond
Silence as a path to insight, through stillness, we begin to see more clearly. This silent retreat day weaves together the physical practice of Yin/Yang yoga, the mental discipline of mindfulness, and the deep teachings of Buddhist philosophy. It’s an exploration of how we relate to the world and to ourselves. A peaceful reset for body and mind.
What to Expect:
Gentle Yin/Yang Yoga sessions to release tension in both body and mind
Guided meditations
Insightful teachings on Buddhist philosophy.
A space of silence to deepen your inner connection
Whether you’re new to meditation and yoga or have an established practice, this day offers a quiet and supportive environment for self-reflection and is an opportunity to deepen your practice. The retreat is perfect for anyone who feels drawn to explore the inner workings of the mind and to find greater peace amidst life’s constant cravings.
Practicing Silence:
Yoga is about connecting mind, body, and heart. What allows this connection is silence. Since primordial days, the practitioners of yoga, as well as spirituality and meditation, have long benefited from the practice of silence. In the philosophical world, it’s said that while practicing silence, we are speaking with our consciousness. Being still is also a practice. Although this day is in complete silence, of course I will guide you through this day with guided meditation, lecture, being there for support and questions.
Practicing Mindfulness Meditation:
On this day you also learn and practice with Mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation (also called Insight or Vipassana meditation) is a form of Buddhist meditation that calms and steadies the mind, helping us to see into our habits and conditioning, and allowing us to be more present to any given moment in our lives. We practice this form of meditation in the context of the Four Noble Truths that were taught by the Buddha.

Benefits of Silence:
Silence offers profound benefits, many of which we aren’t even aware of. Besides giving our ears a break, silence has been shown to offer significant health advantages that boost overall well-being.
From a physiological and emotional standpoint, silence helps:
· Lower blood pressure
· Boost the body’s immune system
· Benefit brain chemistry by growing new cells.
Studies found that two hours of silence could create new cells in the hippocampus region, a brain area linked to learning, remembering, and emotions.
· Decrease stress by lowering blood cortisol levels and adrenaline. Promote good hormone regulation
· Creativity and inspiration may bubble up when allowing thoughts to go where they will
· Awareness. Once you’re comfortable in your silence, you’ll notice a distinct shift in your ability to be more self-aware. In addition, you can better appreciate the world around you, including your immediate environment.
· Reflection – Silence permits the kind of reflection that is beyond mere introspection. Touching in with inner wisdom.
